Participating Agencies

  • Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife

This project uses multiple long-term (30+ years) data sets from radio-telemetry of female bears, mark-recapture of female and male bears, den-site visits, and harvest data to estimate demographic parameters and population change rates; to predict population trajectories; to evaluate the effectiveness of the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife’s current bear monitoring program and population estimates; and to determine whether alternative research and monitoring methods are appropriate.
