Little work has been done on daily age of alligator gar, although the ability to estimate a variety of life history parameters (hatch, growth, mortality) is contingent upon this. We are using known age fish raised in a hatchery to validate the timing of the formation of the first ring, validation of daily ring formation, and the maximum age at which daily ages are valid.
