Participating Agencies

  • Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries

The objectives of this project are to: 1) document the history of LDWF’s Bald Eagle nest monitoring program, 2) document the exponential increase in Louisiana’s Bald Eagle nesting population, 3) document migration routes and stopover locations for migrant Louisiana Bald Eagles, 4) determine home ranges and quantify habitats used by nesting Bald Eagles in Louisiana using GIS and remote sensing techniques, and 5) quantify habitats used outside Louisiana using remote sensing techniques and GIS, and evaluate possible population risks and threats. These data will allow us to further delineate which habitats are essential for Bald Eagles, both in Louisiana and elsewhere, for meeting seasonal resource demands. This information will be used by resource managers to make informed decisions concerning human development activities in habitats used by Louisiana Bald Eagles.
