Virtually nothing is known about habitats used by American woodcock during spring migration. Our study will constitute a first attempt at documenting types of habitat used by spring migrating woodcock in the Central Region focusing in on Arkansas, Missouri and Iowa. Citizen scientists and public land biologists will be recruited to detect the numbers and locations of migrating woodcock. We will use the location data to then assess diurnal cover types available to those migrating woodcock. This pilot project should allow managers to better understand the breadth of habitats used by spring migrating woodcock.
