Biography
Dr. Collazo received graduate degrees from the University of Idaho and Iowa State University. He focuses on the population dynamics of different taxonomic groups with emphasis on terrestrial and aquatic species. He specializes on endangered species recovery and pre-listing conservation. His research addresses conservation needs in the context of anthropogenic influences and landscape changes. Much of his long-term research has focused on the ecology and habitat management of migratory shorebirds and land birds at local and landscape levels. Landscape level work include research aimed at incorporating non-protected habitats (shade coffee) into habitat conservation strategies. He also studies amphibian species as biological models to better understand impacts of climate change, and data needed to inform climate adaptation strategies. His work focuses on southeastern United States and the Caribbean basin. Dr. Collazo regularly teaches courses in Tropical Avian Ecology, Species-Habitat Relationship Modeling.
