Biography

I earned my BS in Biology and BA in Economics, both with an emphasis on applied statistics, from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2021. Throughout my time as an undergrad, I began working in stream monitoring following acid mine drainage remediation. This transitioned to my graduate work, advised by Dr. Dave Janetski. My thesis analyzed the recovery of different indicators affected by acid mine drainage in freshwater streams (sediment, water, periphyton, and benthic macroinvertebrates) via a meta-analysis and a case study. I received my MS in Biology from IUP in August 2022 and will join the Organismic and Evolutionary Biology program at UMass Amherst in the fall of 2022. My research in the Roy lab will include investigating the threatened freshwater mussel, the Brook Floater, while participating in the Brook Floater Working Group. During my PhD, I will focus on the conservation planning and monitoring, propagation planning and implementation, population and habitat assessments, and community engagement of the Brook Floater.
