Biography

Alex grew up in a small town in Iowa and has always loved living creatures. As a kid, she made her own fishing pole from a stick and biked around town with a basketful of frogs. She graduated from USD with BS degrees in Biology and Spanish. After graduating, Alex interned at the Great Plains Zoo working with the large carnivores, then at a bovine embryology lab, which led to a position at Sanford Advanced Reproductive Lab. She still yearned for the outdoors, so she then spent two years with USFWS in Madison, SD conducting waterfowl and shorebird surveys, monitoring nesting habitat on WPAs and restoring tallgrass prairie. Then, she worked at Blue Dasher Farm's insect research lab participating in several projects involving neonicotinoids and regenerative agriculture. Currently, Alex is working towards a master's degree studying pollinator diversity and insect services in regenerative agroecosystems in Canada.
