Zachary Loman

Education

  • Ph D Mississippi State University 2014
  • MA Humboldt State University 2010
  • Other University of Delaware 2006

Biography

Zac completed his master’s in biology in 2010 at Humboldt State University. He studied the Golden-cheeked Warbler (Setophaga chrysoparia), a warbler endemic to central Texas. He completed his Ph.D. in Wildlife and Fisheries in 2014 at Mississippi State University, under the late Samuel Riffell. His Ph.D. addressed effects on songbirds from biofuel feedstock production in intensively managed pine forests. His primary species of interests included (among others) two warbler species, Prairie Warbler (Setophaga discolor) and Yellow-breasted Chat (Icteria virens).

Teaching Interest

Dr. Loman's teaching includes Ornithology and Applied Ecology.

Research Interest

Dr. Zac Loman’s research interest focuses on bird conservation of the passerines and near-passerines. He is primarily interested in statistical modeling as it pertains to conservation, biology and ecology. He is partial to studying birds in the family Parulidae (the New World warblers) . Currently he is working with Drs. Cynthia Loftin and Daniel Harrison to validate spatial avian landscape capability models. Again, the emphasis is on warblers: Blackburnian Warbler (Setophaga fusca), Blackpoll Warbler (Setophaga striata), Ovenbird (Seiurus aurocapilla), Northern Waterthrush (Parkesia noveboracensis), and one thrush, Wood Thrush (Hylocichla mustelina).
