Type Concept: This is a provisional type in the Southwest and a minor type on White Sands Missile Range (four plots). It is known from both escarpment and dipslopes of moderate to warm aspects at elevations of 1670 to 2390 m (5500-7500 feet). Stands are characterized by an open canopy of Pinus edulis and Juniperus monosperma, with a grassy understory dominated by Bouteloua curtipendula and occasionally codominated by Aristida purpurea.
