Type Concept Sentence: No Data Available
Common (Translated Scientific) Name: Coyotebrush - California Blackberry / Weedy Herbs Shrubland
Colloquial Name: No Data Available
Hierarchy Level: Association
Type Concept: This shrubland association is currently only known from Point Reyes National Seashore in California, and the following description is based on occurrences there. Additional information will be added as it becomes available. Stands are found at low elevations on the lower third to ridgetops of 18° to 35° southwest- to northwest-facing slopes. Soil textures range from moderately fine silty clay loam to coarse loamy sand. This association typically occupies the coastal terrace and coastward sides of the area. Rubus ursinus is a common colonizer of moist areas in this zone, and this association is indicative of a slightly cooler and moister setting than ~Baccharis pilularis / Annual Grass-Herb Shrubland (CEGL003183)$$. Under equivalent moisture conditions, it also indicates a somewhat more advanced stage in the stand dynamics of ~Baccharis pilularis Scrub Alliance (A0836)$$ than the former association. Stands of this shrubland form an open to intermittent herb layer and an open to intermittent shrub layer. It is dominated by Baccharis pilularis and Rubus ursinus. Toxicodendron diversilobum and Clinopodium douglasii are usually present, and a variety of other species that may also be present include Lonicera hispidula, Frangula californica, Symphyotrichum chilense, Oemleria cerasiformis, Heracleum maximum, Marah fabaceus, Holcus lanatus, Agrostis sp., Briza minor, Plantago lanceolata, Pteridium aquilinum, Geranium dissectum, Scrophularia californica, and Hypochaeris radicata.

Geographic Range: This association is only known from the Point Reyes National Seashore. Information about its global characteristics is not available without additional inventory. However, it is likely that this association is common in foggy coastal areas in northern California expressing a stage transition from open pasture and perennial non-native grassland to a more continuous cover of Baccharis pilularis.
