Classification Comments: Type is found on Isle Royale (TNC 1999b), where it occurs on the upper ridges. It may be a semi-natural type, originating from human-caused burns of ridgetops. The more natural form may be ~Pinus banksiana / Cladonia spp. Rock Outcrop Vegetation (CEGL002491)$$. Type is associated with the beaked hazelnut shrubland type, ~Corylus cornuta - Amelanchier spp. - Prunus virginiana Rocky Shrubland (CEGL005197)$$. It may also overlap with ~Danthonia spicata - Poa compressa Granite Grassland (CEGL005157)$$.
