Characteristic shrubs are Juniperus virginiana var. virginiana, Rhus aromatica var. aromatica, Croton alabamensis var. alabamensis, Frangula caroliniana, Forestiera ligustrina, Phyllanthopsis phyllanthoides, Berchemia scandens, Hypericum frondosum, Sideroxylon lycioides, and stunted individuals of Acer leucoderme, Quercus muehlenbergii, Quercus austrina, Fraxinus americana, and Ulmus alata. Carex eburnea is a characteristic herb, which is present primarily in this community and is not as common in associated woodlands or herbaceous types.
