Type Concept: This shrubland association is currently only known from Wupatki National Monument in Arizona, and the following description is based on occurrences there. Additional information will be added as it becomes available. Elevation ranges from 1400-1580 m (4593-5184 feet). Stands occur on flat or steep slopes from 0-34%. This association occurs on rock outcrops and is associated with sandstone and remnant basaltic lavaflows. Total vegetation cover ranges from 25-27% with 18-24% cover in the shrub layer and 1-7% cover in the herbaceous layer. The total species diversity ranges from 11-16 species within the 3 sampled plots. The shrub layer is dominated or codominated by Brickellia californica and Rhus trilobata. Ericameria nauseosa may be present with high cover within this association. The herbaceous layer is low to sparse and not dominated by a single species.
