Habitats are strongly influenced by fluctuating water levels which may reduce competition from other plants. Carex densa occurs from sea level to 460 m (0-1500 feet) elevation. Elevation range in Washington is 60-165 m (160-540 feet).

Geographic Range: This alliance is currently known from Oregon and Washington but is expected to occur in California and Canada.
