This wetland shrubland has a moderate to dense shrub canopy 2-5 m tall. Cornus racemosa, Baptisia australis, Amorpha fruticosa, and Salix spp. are dominant. Scattered trees common to the floodplain may be present. Platanus occidentalis, Populus deltoides, Salix nigra, and Acer negundo are among these. Herbaceous species are varied, but common ones are Alliaria petiolata, Phalaris arundinacea, Solidago canadensis, and Verbesina alternifolia.
