Colloquial Name: No Data Available

Hierarchy Level:  Association

Type Concept: This shrubland is described from the Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge in southern Arizona. Plot data indicate an elevational range of 1075-1130 m (3530-3700 feet) and that stands are found on moderate to somewhat steep upland slopes on foothills and outwash plains. Soils are sandy loam or sand. The vegetation is characterized by an open to moderately dense (20-30% cover) tall-shrub canopy dominated by Prosopis velutina with an open to moderately dense (20-30% cover) low-shrub layer dominated by Calliandra eriophylla. Other shrubs present may include Acacia greggii, Mimosa dysocarpa, or Yucca x schottii. The herbaceous layer has high species richness of forbs (>25 species) but at relatively low cover (20%). Cover is codominated by graminoids and forbs. Characteristic species include Bouteloua aristidoides, Bouteloua curtipendula, Hilaria belangeri, Panicum hirticaule, Pleuraphis rigida, Ambrosia confertiflora, Chamaesyce albomarginata, Evolvulus alsinoides, Gutierrezia microcephala, Ipomoea hederacea, Gutierrezia microcephala, Mollugo verticillata, and Phemeranthus aurantiacus. If present, Eragrostis lehmanniana cover is low (less than 25% cover and less than a third of the total perennial graminoid cover).
