Type Concept: This shrubland association occurs on somewhat steep to very steep southwest- and southeast-facing slopes at low elevations between 0 and 681 m. It is characterized by a codominance of Eriogonum fasciculatum, Salvia mellifera, and Malosma laurina in the shrub layer. The herbaceous layer is generally insignificant and composed of scattered non-native species. The emergent tree layer includes on occasion Quercus agrifolia and Quercus lobata.
