Type Concept: This riparian woodland association is known from southwestern New Mexico, but it likely occurs in southeastern Arizona. Provisional data indicate that it is found in scattered stands on terraces along perennial and intermittent streams at elevations from 1300 to 1600 m (4300-5300 feet). Platanus wrightii forms open to closed canopies with occasional Juglans major or Celtis laevigata var. reticulata. The understory is characterized by abundant Bouteloua curtipendula and an assortment of other grasses such as Elymus elymoides and Setaria grisebachii. Shrubs can also be well-represented but are variable and include Ericameria laricifolia, Vitis arizonica, and Brickellia californica.
