Type Concept: This association is found along the San Francisco River near Luna Lake in southwestern New Mexico. This type is know to form dense stands along streambanks at elevations around 2270 m (7450 feet). Sites are probably flooded on a annual basis and have wet, rocky soils (reported as loamy-skeletal Typic Fluvaquents). Salix irrorata is very abundant to luxuriant, and other shrubs are few and scattered. The understory is characterized by an abundant to luxuriant growth of wetland graminoids with Eleocharis palustris as the dominant in association with Carex aquatilis, Carex stipata, Glyceria grandis, Glyceria striata, Juncus arcticus ssp. littoralis, Juncus saximontanus, Schoenoplectus tabernaemontani, Beckmannia syzigachne, and Agrostis stolonifera. Common wetland indicators recorded for the type are Equisetum arvense, Argentina anserina, Cicuta douglasii, and Epilobium ciliatum.
