Common (Translated Scientific) Name: Arizona Alder / Dewystem Willow Flooded Forest

Colloquial Name: No Data Available

Hierarchy Level:  Association

Type Concept: This association is found in the Gila River watershed, Saliz Canyon, and probably elsewhere in the mountains of southwestern New Mexico. Limited data suggest that the type occurs at around 1600 m (5270 feet) elevation on cobbly but well-stabilized banks that are subject to frequent flooding. Soils are reported as unconsolidated riverwash. This association is characterized by a moderately closed canopy of Alnus oblongifolia, with an abundant understory of Salix irrorata. There can also be minor amounts of Populus angustifolia and Acer negundo, mostly as seedlings and saplings. The wetland indicators Eleocharis palustris and Equisetum arvense are common. The introduced Agrostis stolonifera can be well-represented.
