Type Concept Sentence: No Data Available

Common (Translated Scientific) Name: Velvet Mesquite / Netleaf Hackberry Wet Scrub

Colloquial Name: No Data Available

Hierarchy Level:  Association

Type Concept: This shrubland is described from southern and central Arizona along drainages and lower slopes. Plot data from Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge indicate an elevational range of 1055-1150 m (3460-3780 m) where it is found along drainages and in floodplains. Stands in the Verde Valley at Tuzigoot National Monument occur on toeslopes at around 1500 m. Soils are sandy loam or loam. The vegetation is characterized by a moderately dense to dense tall-shrub (or short-tree) canopy codominated by Prosopis velutina and Celtis laevigata var. reticulata. Other tall shrubs/trees include Acacia greggii, Aloysia gratissima, Fraxinus velutina, Hymenoclea monogyra, Lycium pallidum, Mahonia haematocarpa, Mahonia trifoliolata, and Ziziphus obtusifolia. The herbaceous layer is sparse to moderately dense (10-50% cover) and may have high species richness of forbs (>25 species). Cover is codominated by graminoids and forbs, with common species including Amaranthus palmeri, Bouteloua aristidoides, Bouteloua rothrockii, Panicum hirticaule, Ipomoea hederacea, Setaria grisebachii, and Phemeranthus aurantiacus. If present, Eragrostis lehmanniana cover is low (less than 25% cover and less than a third of the total perennial graminoid cover).
