Type Concept Sentence: No Data Available

Common (Translated Scientific) Name: Gray Alder / Fire-thread Sedge Wet Shrubland

Colloquial Name: No Data Available

Hierarchy Level:  Association

Type Concept: This minor, linear wetland appears around 1220 m (4000 feet) elevation in broad, low-gradient valleys with small meandering, incised channels in northeastern Washington. It is restricted to organic soils with a shallow water table. Alnus incana ssp. tenuifolia thickets typically with more than 50% cover appear with only a few other tall shrubs, such as Salix drummondiana. Conifers (Abies lasiocarpa or Picea engelmannii) are often present but never with cover exceeding 5%. Carex scopulorum var. prionophylla dominates or codominates with Calamagrostis canadensis. Few other species are present, although Senecio triangularis usually occurs. The high cover of Alnus incana ssp. tenuifolia and Carex scopulorum var. prionophylla with few other shrubs distinguishes this from other Alnus incana types. This may be the wettest of all Alnus incana ssp. tenuifolia types.
