Type Concept: This community occurs along streams in canyons of the mountain ranges of Trans-Pecos Texas and the Stockton Plateau, usually on flat-bedded limestone with relatively permanent water. Scattered shrubs or small trees of Juglans microcarpa, and sometimes also Ostrya knowltonii, Baccharis salicifolia, and Fraxinus velutina occur along the streambanks, and on elevated portions of the streambed. Cladium mariscus ssp. jamaicense forms a dense herbaceous layer. This community occurs in association with ~Juglans microcarpa / Sorghastrum nutans Flooded Scrub Woodland (CEGL004594)$$, but occupies sites along the streambed which retain ponded water for longer periods of time.
