Calamovilfa curtissii is often found around the outer edges of these ecotonal plant communities. This vegetation occurs as an herbaceous ecotone just above the Taxodium ascendens ponds and swales. The soil is strongly hydric, mucky, and likely to inundate to a depth of 3-4.5 dm (12-18 inches) for 3-6 months in most years.
