Other trees include Betula nigra, Liquidambar styraciflua, and less commonly Carya aquatica, Ulmus spp., Celtis spp., and Fraxinus pennsylvanica. These forests occur in a complex with shrublands dominated by Juniperus virginiana var. virginiana, Ilex vomitoria, Cornus obliqua, and Salix caroliniana and open grasslands with Calamovilfa arcuata, Panicum virgatum, and Schizachyrium scoparium.
