Common (Translated Scientific) Name: Desert Almond - Woolly-fruit Bur-ragweed Desert Wash Shrubland

Colloquial Name: No Data Available

Hierarchy Level:  Association

Type Concept: This association is found at mid to upper elevations in the Mojave Desert in California. Vegetation is characterized by an open to moderately dense, often patchy shrub canopy (8-36% cover) codominated by Prunus fasciculata and Ambrosia eriocentra with Salvia dorrii present to codominant. Other shrubs frequently present include Acacia greggii, Cylindropuntia acanthocarpa, Eriogonum fasciculatum, Hymenoclea salsola, and Senna armata. Occasional emergent Juniperus osteosperma, Pinus monophylla, or Yucca brevifolia trees are sometimes present. If present, the herbaceous layer is sparse to moderate, ranging up to 18% cover. Commonly associated native grasses and forbs include Amsinckia spp., Penstemon palmeri, Salvia columbariae, Senecio flaccidus, Sphaeralcea ambigua and Stephanomeria pauciflora, and exotic annuals include Bromus rubens and Erodium cicutarium. Stands are found in drainage channels and arroyos at 1100-1510 m elevation. Sites are on gentle slopes on variable aspects. Soils include sands and sandy loams and are derived from a variety of substrates such as alluvium, gneiss, granite, granodiorite, and rhyolite.
