Type Concept: This scrub association is found at mid to upper elevations in the Mojave Desert and southern Great Basin in Arizona, California and southern Nevada. Vegetation is characterized by an open to moderate shrub canopy (6-21% cover) codominated by Larrea tridentata with Ambrosia dumosa and Eriogonum fasciculatum characteristically present to codominant. Other shrubs frequently present include Krameria erecta, Viguiera parishii, and Yucca schidigera. If present, the herbaceous layer is sparse with native forb Porophyllum gracile and exotic annual grass Bromus tectorum most abundant. Stands occur on variable slope positions ranging from 700-1350 m elevation. Sites occur on gentle to steep slopes on variable aspects. Soils are sand and loams and are derived from a variety of substrates such as alkali-granite (alaskite), alluvium, basalt, granite, granodiorite, and rhyolite.
