Environmental Description:  These stands occur in seasonally or perennial flooded pools, ponds and sloughs. Stands tolerate wetting/submergence as well as seasonal exposure to air. Beds may be up to 1 m (2-3 feet) thick while submerged and condense to 15 cm (6 inches) when dry. They occur in cold, clean freshwater and do not seem to increase under eutrophic conditions (Christy 2004).
