Soils are underlain by andesite and basalt. Abies lowiana and Pseudotsuga menziesii dominate the overstory with 36% and 34% cover, respectively. The shrub layer includes cover from Amelanchier alnifolia, Mahonia nervosa, Paxistima myrsinites, and Rosa gymnocarpa. Important forbs such as Anemone deltoidea and Adenocaulon bicolor are typically present.

Rationale for Nominal Species or Physiognomic Features: No Data Available
Classification Comments: Atzet et al. (1996) deleted this type in the most updated classification, placing most of the plots in their Abies concolor / Berberis nervosa association. The Oregon Natural Heritage Program would like to continue to use Amelanchier alnifolia as an indicator of lower elevation, warmer sites with more Pseudotsuga menziesii and generally a little Pinus ponderosa. However, an overall analysis of these types is essential.
