Common (Translated Scientific) Name: Pitch Pine / Leatherleaf / Peatmoss species Swamp Woodland
Colloquial Name: Pitch Pine Bog
Hierarchy Level: Association
Type Concept: This association comprises pitch pine bogs of the Northeast. Canopy associates include Acer rubrum, Betula populifolia, and Nyssa sylvatica. Other shrubs include Vaccinium corymbosum, Kalmia angustifolia, Aronia melanocarpa, Vaccinium myrtilloides, and Gaylussacia baccata. Eriophorum spp., Scirpus spp., Calopogon tuberosus, Vaccinium macrocarpon, Rhynchospora alba, Drosera rotundifolia, Drosera intermedia, and Carex trisperma are typical herbs. Other herbs are Cornus canadensis, Gaultheria procumbens, Pteridium aquilinum, Osmunda cinnamomea, Maianthemum canadense, and Trientalis borealis.
