	CEGL002962 Viguiera reticulata Shrubland
Type Concept Sentence: No Data Available

Common (Translated Scientific) Name: Netvein Goldeneye Shrubland

								Colloquial Name: No Data Available

								Hierarchy Level:  Association

Type Concept: This association is currently only described from Death Valley National Park. Additional global information will be added as it becomes available. This association is found in the central Mojave Desert and southern Great Basin in both California and western Nevada. Stands are usually on small terraces (less than 0.5 ha), adjacent to the most active parts of washes or directly above on colluvial, rocky slopes. At Death Valley, it is found along dry washes or adjacent steep rocky canyon slopes in mid to high elevations. Viguiera reticulata stands appear to occur on alluvium derived mostly from calcareous substrates (dolomite, limestone, and marble) where irregular flooding occurs. Elevation ranges from 600 to 1550 m and averages 1039 m, and aspect is variable. Vegetation forms an open to intermittent shrub canopy in which the shrub cover ranges from 8 to 40%. The emergent tree layer, if present, is sparse, and the herb understory is variable and ranges from 0 to 18% cover. Viguiera reticulata is codominant in the shrub canopy. Other shrubs often present include Ambrosia dumosa, Eriogonum fasciculatum, Hymenoclea salsola, Larrea tridentata, and Stephanomeria pauciflora. The herbaceous layer typically includes Bromus rubens, and those that are often present include Eriogonum inflatum and Sphaeralcea ambigua.
