Type Concept: This association grows on southeastern to western aspects in the Siskiyou Mountains between 1350-1645 m of elevation. Stands are found on moderate to steep slopes, from midslope to ridgetops. Soils are metavolcanics, schists, granodiorite and peridotite. Pinus ponderosa and Pseudotsuga menziesii are the dominant trees in the overstory with average covers of 35% and 16%, respectively. Pinus lambertiana and Calocedrus decurrens are also present but at lower cover values. The shrub layer averages 65% total cover, with Arctostaphylos nevadensis being the most constant. Arctostaphylos patula occurs near or within stands of this type. Forb and grass cover totals 40%.
