The herbaceous layer is composed of Decodon verticillatus, Peltandra virginica, Nymphaea odorata, Carex exilis, Dichanthelium dichotomum, Oxypolis rigidior, Triadenum virginicum, Dulichium arundinaceum, Glyceria obtusa, Rhynchospora alba, Carex atlantica, Selaginella apoda, Drosera rotundifolia, Juncus militaris, Vaccinium macrocarpon, Calopogon tuberosus, and Eriocaulon decangulare. Floating mats within mill ponds have a unique species assemblage including Xyris difformis, Fuirena spp., Hypericum mutilum, Juncus pelocarpus, Juncus canadensis, Fimbristylis sp., and Rhynchospora macrostachya.
