CEGL005803 Eriogonum corymbosum Cinder Sparse Vegetation
Type Concept Sentence: No Data Available
Common (Translated Scientific) Name: Crispleaf Buckwheat Cinder Sparse Vegetation
Colloquial Name: No Data Available
Hierarchy Level: Association
Type Concept: This sparse vegetation is currently only known from Wupatki National Monument and Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument in Arizona, and the following description is based on occurrences there. Additional global information will be added as it becomes available. At Wupatki, elevation ranges from 1480-1530 m (4856-5020 feet). The topography ranges from minimal to steep slopes with 3-40% slope. This association is located on black cinder-dominated substrate. At Sunset Crater, this association occurs at 2320 m, on a steep slope (30%) in cinder gravel. Total vegetation cover is low ranging from 11-25%. The total species diversity is low and ranges from 3-9 species. The shrub layer consistently contains Eriogonum corymbosum which must be present for assignment of this association type; however, other shrubs such as Brickellia californica and Fallugia paradoxa may be present in greater abundance. The herbaceous layer is sparse and not dominated by a single species.
