CEGL001986 Saxifraga tolmiei - Luzula piperi Alpine Snowbed
Type Concept Sentence: No Data Available
Common (Translated Scientific) Name: Tolmie''s Saxifrage - Piper''s Woodrush Alpine Snowbed
Colloquial Name: No Data Available
Hierarchy Level: Association
Type Concept: This association occurs at high elevations on snowbed sites with a very long-lasting snowpack. In subalpine parklands, the association tends to occur on north-facing slopes. In the alpine zone, above treeline, the association occurs on gentle to moderate slopes with a greater variety of aspects. The vegetation is sparse, less than 25% total cover, and is characterized by the prominence of Saxifraga tolmiei. Luzula piperi is usually present to prominent in the North Cascades but is less frequent at Mount Rainier. Luetkea pectinata, Carex spectabilis, Carex nigricans, or Juncus drummondii are usually present but are less abundant than Saxifraga tolmiei or Luzula piperi.
