It is characterized by a dense canopy, 20-30 m tall, of Quercus oglethorpensis, Quercus similis, Quercus sinuata var. sinuata, Quercus phellos, Quercus pagoda, Quercus shumardii, Quercus alba, Pinus taeda, Carya ovata, Acer floridanum, Liquidambar styraciflua, Fraxinus americana, and Ulmus alata. A sparse subcanopy of canopy species and a sparse shrub layer of Crataegus marshallii, Crataegus flava, Crataegus triflora, Aesculus pavia var. pavia, Bignonia capreolata, and Parthenocissus quinquefolia are present. The sparse to moderately dense herb layer is composed of Trillium ludovicianum, Oxalis rubra, Carex cherokeensis, Sisyrinchium sp., Tillandsia usneoides, Pleopeltis polypodioides ssp. michauxiana, Chasmanthium sessiliflorum, Danthonia spicata, Lithospermum tuberosum, Allium canadense var. canadense, and Cardamine bulbosa. Characteristic examples of this type are known from Copenhagen Forest (Caldwell Parish, Louisiana).
