Type Concept: This woodland association is currently only known from Yosemite National Park in California, and the following description is based on occurrences there. Additional information will be added as it becomes available. elevations range from 2130 to 2350 m (7000-7700 feet), and aspects are eastern. This association is found in low to middle slope positions, primarily near intermittent creeks. Soils are well-drained loamy sands derived primarily from volcanic, granitic or metamorphic parent materials. Bare soil ranges from 20-75%. Sites are upland or riparian. This association is characterized by tree cover of up to 60% in the 35-50 m height class, although most stands have a lower canopy cover and height. It is dominated by Pinus jeffreyi and Pinus monophylla. The shrub layer ranges between 15-25% and is dominated by Artemisia tridentata. Purshia tridentata is also present, in lower amounts. The herb layer averages 5% cover, with Bromus tectorum and Elymus elymoides being the most frequent species.
