Type Concept: This shrubland association is currently only known from Wupatki National Monument in Arizona, and the following description is based on occurrences there. Additional information will be added as it becomes available. This association is found from low to high elevations and ranges from 1291-1883 m (4236-6178 feet). It occurs on flat land to steep slopes ranging from 0-27%. This association occurs on sand dunes with sandy soils that can be intermixed with clay, riverine cobbles, and cinders. Total vegetation cover ranges from 10-45% fairly evenly split between the shrub layer and herbaceous layers. The total species diversity ranges from 11-21 species within sampled plots. The indicator shrub for this association is Poliomintha incana, and Gutierrezia sarothrae consistently co-occurs. Additional shrub species may include Artemisia filifolia, Ephedra torreyana, Isocoma pluriflora, and Psorothamnus thompsoniae var. whitingii. The herbaceous layer may or may not contain Pleuraphis jamesii.
