Type Concept Sentence: No Data Available
Common (Translated Scientific) Name: Ponderosa Pine - (Quaking Aspen) / Apache Plume - (Rockspirea) Lava Bed Sparse Vegetation
Colloquial Name: No Data Available
Hierarchy Level: Association
Type Concept: This sparse association is currently only known from Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument in Arizona, and the following description is based on occurrences there. Additional information will be added as it becomes available. Elevation is fairly constant and ranges from 2100-2130 m. Slope ranges from 0-15% slope. The substrate consists of large soil pockets within aa lava and at the edge of the lava beds. Total vegetation cover ranges from 5-45%. Species richness ranges from 4-22 within 5 sampled plots. The sparse (0-30% cover) tree layer consists of scattered individuals of Pinus ponderosa and Populus tremuloides. The shrub layer (4-6%) consists of mainly Fallugia paradoxa and Holodiscus dumosus. The herbaceous layer is sparse (1-5%).
