Michigan Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit

Wetlands occurring along the great lakes are important ecosystems for many species of wildlife

Welcome to the newest Cooperative Research Unit located at Michigan State University in East Lansing Michigan!

The Michigan unit has been approved to be the 42nd unit of its kind, as part of the USGS Cooperative Research Unit program founded in 1935.

Focused on the overall advancement, conservation, and protection of natural resources in Michigan and beyond, the Michigan Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit is a partnership with the U.S. Geological Survey, Department of Interior, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Michigan State University, Michigan Department of Natural Resources, and the Wildlife Management Institute.

The Unit officially opened its doors on June 5, 2023 when Unit Leader, Brett DeGregorio, and Unit Administrator, Elisa Lawriw, arrived on campus. The unit will be growing quickly and recruiting scientists and students alike to work towards solving fish and wildlife issues in Michigan.
