Biography

Dr. Andersen received graduate degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and worked for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service as a Wildlife Assistance Biologist in Colorado prior to joining the Minnesota Unit in 1989 as the Assistant Leader-Wildlife and becoming Unit Leader in 1995. His research focuses on wildlife population ecology and management, with an emphasis on avian ecology and conservation. Current research themes include migration and movement ecology, effects of agricultural and land-management practices on wildlife, and habitat-wildlife relations. He has led collaborative teams working on Arctic- and Subarctic-nesting waterfowl and raptors, Neotropical-Nearctic migrant songbirds, and American woodcock to provide information necessary to make effective conservation decisions. Dr. Andersen has taught graduate level courses in population analysis, avian conservation and management, and a variety of graduate seminars. His current teaching efforts include offering a graduate-level seminar in alternate years.
