Biography

Ian was born in Ann Arbor, MI and came to the Maine Unit in the Fall of 201. Research interests include: Ecological applications of GIS/Remote sensing, biogeography, sustainable natural resource management and human dimensions, lake ecology, conservation biology, and anything moose-related. General interests include sports, traveling, hiking, running, photography, humor, and moose. . I am developing linear regression models to estimate clarity of Maine lakes remotely using volunteer-collected field data, physical lake parameters and satellite imagery (Landsat Thematic Mapper and MODIS). The intent is to complement exist monitoring programs, fill gaps in existing knowledge, detect spatial and temporal patterns of water clarity in the past 20 years and help management agencies identify lakes in need of attention.
