Modeling Bat Habitat Use Across Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area (BISO): Potential Effects of Prescribed Fire

January 2014 - May 2016

Participating Agencies

  • NRPP

We will study year-round bat activity on BISO and relate species presence and activity to environmental conditions such as temperature and rainfall, forest type, forest structure, and management history. Seven prescribed fires have been conducted since 2005 and these sites will be sampled as will a number of unburned sites. We will use these data to model the potential effects of BISO’s fire management plan on habitat suitability for various bat species inhabiting the park.
