Resource selection and movements of mule deer and elk on the Jemez Pueblo

The goals project are to: 1) describe seasonal movements of deer and elk including delineating summer/winter ranges, fawning/calving areas, and migration routes; 2) estimate population size, survival rates, and determine cause of mortality for mule deer and elk on pueblo land and compare survival rates and cause-specific mortality with mule deer and elk collared in areas adjacent to the Pueblo of Jemez; 3) estimate forage availability for mule deer and elk in relation to wildfire and forest restoration treatments (e.g.,prescribed burning and thinning); and 4) assess resource selection patterns of mule deer and elk in relation to forest restoration and wildfire in association with an ongoing CFLRP large mammal monitoring project being led by the NM-CRU.
