Redwood Creek supports self-sustaining populations of coho salmon, Chinook salmon, steelhead trout and other native fishes. These salmonids are listed as threatened under the Federal Endangered Species Act and are recognized as being important for recovering populations throughout northern California. This study will determine and track smolt abundances in time and space, estimate abundance structure, collect data on life history attributes, collect genetic samples of smolts and play a key role in the life cycle monitoring station by determining smolt abundances in conjunction with operation of the DIDSON which counts adults entering lower Redwood Creek.
