The collection of data presented in this thesis occurred during the summers of 2007, 2008, and 2009 on the Rob and Bessie Welder Wildlife Foundation Refuge in San Patricio County, Texas. This study focused on avian ecology and communities in the Texas coastal bend. The objectives of this study were to assess avian productivity and survival through operation of two netting arrays, conduct point counts at netting arrays to estimate species richness and abundance, and monitor nestling diet of sympatric Golden-fronted (Melanerpes aurifrons) and Ladder-backed Woodpeckers (Picoides scalaris).
