Participating Agencies

  • State of Colorado
  • Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation

Across 7 states in the NW United States the overall objectives are to: 1) Identify and understand the factors that influence elk calf survival and cause-specific mortality; 2) assess the influence of landscape-level variation in habitat, climate, predation, and human harvest on the survival and cause-specific mortality of adult female elk;; 3) understand the potential consequences of these relationships on population growth rate under different predator, habitat, population management, and climatic scenarios; 4) use these analyses to build a set of Integrated Population Models that will help wildlife managers make informed decisions.
