The Elk River crystal darter was described as a new species in 2008, the diamond darter. This species is known to occur only in the Elk River, West Virginia. This study documented habitat availability for the diamond darter in the lower Elk River and documented habitat use in a laboratory study. These data were used by natural resource agencies for development of management plans for the species.
