Research is underway to obtain more extensive quantitative population estimates for stream fishes of Puerto Rico and their habitat. We then plan to develop a biotic index that may be employed to rate and classify riverine sport fish habitat. We will analyze contaminant concentrations in sport fish, their foods, and habitats to assess environmental effects and consumption risks. And we will conduct research on the ecology and migration of amphidromous sport fishes to better define management units and scale.
