Develop a more complete understanding of the carbon dynamics of northern high-latitude ecosystems at several scales: plot, landscape, region (e.g., Interior Alaska), pan-boreal (Alaska, Canada, Russia, and Scandinavia). This study will provide a best-practices spatial assessment of soil carbon in Alaska that can be used by a number of modeling and experimental studies that address the vulnerability and fate of soil carbon.
